Antique Arts & Crafts Silver And Lapis Lazuli Set of 6 Demitasse Spoons c. 1910
Antique Arts & Crafts Silver And Lapis Luzuli. Set of 6 Demitasse Spoons c. I'm probably a little biased, but I think this set of spoons is one of the nicest I've seen in a long time! The 6 spoons are a matched set but are all very slightly different, which is testament to their handmade origins. Finding arts & crafts era silver items and jewellery without hallmarks or makers marks is not really that unusual, even for some of the top makers, and these spoons are no exception. The manufacturing quality is superb and shows all the hallmarks of a gifted professional craftsman or craftswoman, and it's my opinion that these spoon are most certainly not the work of an amateur. Although the spoon have no marks, they are solid silver and test as such. In the absence of any marks whatsoever I've studied long and hard to try and pinpoint who might of made these spoons - I've even approached some of the top decorative arts dealers in the U. For opinions and so far there's been a few'maybes' and educated guesses. My initial instinct was that they were perhaps the work of the Articifers Guild, but other suggestions have been that they mimic the style of Bernard Cuzner, Beth Amoore and Ramsden & Carr. The truth is that I simply cannot be sure are there are no absolutely'red flag' markers that definitively pin these to a particular makers - they've almost certainly originated from one of the top Crafts Guilds in the U. In around 1900 - 1910. I'm as sure as I can be that these spoons are fresh to the market. As mentioned above, the spoons are a matched set but have tiny differences which allude to their handmade origins - the bowls are fig shaped and have a lovely spot hammered or planished finish. The narrow stem leads up from a rat tail attachment on the bowl, up to a squared terminal that has a round colett set lapiz lazuli set into it - the silver collar has a decorative rope twist border on each. To each side of the stem there is a silver wire adornment that runs the length of the stem and ends with a delightful curlicue heal either side of the rat tail (very Ramsden Carr in style). The design really is exquisite and and great example of Arts & Crafts silversmithing from the era. Each spoon measures approximately 9.8cm in length - the bowls are 2.2cm across at their widest point - the total unpacked weight is 40.9g. The condition of the spoons is excellent with no faults or issues to report - the silver parts are free from damage and repairs - the stones are securely set and damage free. Although not pictured in the images, a box is provided with the spoons - I believe the box is later (and therefore not original to the spoons), perhaps 1930's, but it has a nice dark oak outer body. This set offer great value considering their style and quality! Please study the images provided to satisfy yourself as to the condition of the items - if you have any further questions please ask and I'll be happy to oblige.
