This is a superb French solid oak art deco compactum wardrobe with fitted interior and glazed Panel doors circa 1937. A rare and high quality, distinctly period piece with modernist influenced styling, handmade and most likely one of a kind. Internal features include seven large drawers with cut away handles below three smaller drawers, each with turned oak knobs, and a sliding hat rail to the left. The hanging space features an innovative rail which projects forward on two chains.
The doors hang on brass ball hinges and feature the original lock and Key. The lock has been tampered at some point but is still operational, The aged oak has a wonderful grain and patina and the peice is ready to grace any period or eclectic bedroom.
H 162 W 135 D 64 The wardrobe is in great antique condition, we have tried to show this accurately in the photographs provided. Most notable is a split to the top of the wardrobe which is due to the natural aging process of solid oak, the split is above eye level and does not affect the structural integrity of the piece. There are some superficial marks and bumps to the Interior and exterior of the wardrobe which can be expected for an item of this age. A couple of the drawer runners have dropped slightly and one has a piece broken off but the drawers all run well Offered in original vintage condition Due to the substantial size and weight of the piece, this item was constructed sectionally and must be dismantled for transportation.
The wardrobe holds itself together due to the build, there are two locking bolts in the Base at either side, there are other holes internally where further reinforcement screws can be added as desired but we do not have the original screws.
