A really beautiful Shapland and Petter Arts and Crafts door which I assume must have come off a Wardrobe. I think but cannot be sure that this door is made from pitch pine with a sort of stain applied to it. The top half has a stained glass panel with an arts and crafts design.
The lead to the front that holds the glass in place has what I would call a bronze finish. The lower half of the door has a carved central panel with an arts and crafts design with further carving to the four panels that surround it. To the top and bottom of the door are large copper hinges. There is also a smaller copper hinge mid way up the door and also a copper escutcheon. The lock is marked with the S & P B for Shapland and Petter Barnstable see photos.
The only damage to this door are a few of what I would say are minor cracks to the glass. I have photographed them to look there worst but depending on how the light shines through them dictates how bad the cracks look. The cracks are stable and there is no loss of glass. Some minor signs of wear but really nothing of note.
Although just a door it is so decorative and really shows off the skills of the craftsmen who worked for Shapland and Petter. Displays beautifully on it's own although someone may have another use for it. 39 Worcester Road, Great Malvern, Worcestershire which is and antique shop but this door is not for sale at this shop.
