RARE c1900 Arts and Crafts silver and carved red glass ring from A&C exhibition
An amazing Arts and Crafts ring c1900, which was displayed in Cheltenham Arts and Crafts Exhibition a number of years ago. It is a large and impressive ring displaying many features of the Arts and Crafts movement at the start of the twentieth century. I have been trying to attribute the ring for at least 18 months now, and perhaps the closest attribution came from a very esteemed source, who suggested it bore a resemblance to Helen Holmes pieces. She was a Bath based Arts and Crafts designer/craftsperson. The squared, serrated teeth holding the stone (in this case red garnet/ruby glass which has been intricately stepped and carved around the base), the flattened, broad leaves also appear in her other pieces of work, as does the section of rope work silver that appears on the shoulders of this ring. It is a large ring, perhaps an early piece by Holmes? It makes a wow statement, large, ornate, flanked by three large and distinctive leaves on each side and the carved red glass stone is a true work of art. 2.6cm wide by approx.
3 cm in length-a bold statement indeed! It is UK size N. I will post the ring byTracked and Signed. Please note that the box is for display purposes only, however I will include a brand new gift box for you.
