This is a stunningly beautiful Arts and Crafts necklace attributed to the great SIBYL DUNLOP of London, c1930. The necklace has so many typical Dunlop touches and really is a statement necklace, which has been executed in a balanced and harmonious way, using these bright apple green chrysoprase stones, alongside the paler blue chalcedony stones.A wonderful combination, which I have come across once or twice in other pieces of her work. The main part of the pendant is centred around a large square domed cabochon of chrysoprase, which is bezel-set. The symmetry sings Dunlop again in the layout of the stones on that main part of the pendant: each corner is set with a teardrop-shaped chrysoprase stone and in between each, it is set with two oval domed blue chalcedony stones.
This mixture of shapes of cabochons is always executed so well by Dunlop. Two solid elongated links of chain connect this pendant to the two blue chalcedony stones at the top of the pendant section.
These also have two silver balls between them. I love the way the blue stones there are joined, as it makes the whole pendant section articulated. There are two further solid elongated links at the start of the chain section which leads to the first round chrysoprase bead. You can see the silver wire detailing around the top and bottom of each bead, securing it in the chain.
There are three chrysoprase beads up each side of the chain. Wonderful to have a beaded chain, on this fabulous necklace! The chain's length is approx. 39cm and the pendant section (from the blue chalcedony at the top) is approx. No marks but I have had a few Sibyl Dunlop pieces in the last year and this feels absolutely consistent with her work.I will send this beautiful necklace by International Tracked and Signed from here in Italy. Box is for display purposes only.
