This is a stunning Arts and Crafts, Victorian gentleman's armoire. Has a makers plaque for S&H Jewell, Little Queen Street, Holborn. Also has the retailer stamp (Heal & Son) - both well respected and instrumental in the arts and crafts movement. The wardrobe measures H-203cm x W-121cm x D51.5cm. The wardrobe and each of the drawers are lockable (although there is only 1 key which only locks the small cupboard) with each, quality lock stamped with a VR royal warrant. Please note that this wardrobe will require some attention - there are numerous scratches (particularly to the right side as you look at it), there is a small split near the hinge of the small cupboard and section of architrave at the bottom has snapped.

These are all easy jobs for someone who knows what they are doing and I considered repairing them myself but in honesty this is too good a piece for an amateur to mess up. The mirror also shows signs of ageing although personally I like it and would leave well alone. This item is for collection only from Hinckley, Leics.

S and H Jewell were fine quality cabinet makers who were established in 1830. They were a family business who worked from their premises at 29-31 Little Queen Street, Holborn, in London and then later to Parker Street, LONDON. Heals was established in 1810 as a feather-dressing business by John Harris Heal and his son, John Harris Heal Junior. In 1818 the business moved to Tottenham Court Road, London and expanded into bedding, bedstead, furniture manufacture and into retailing.

By the end of the nineteenth century it was one of the best-known furniture suppliers in London. If you would like to collect your item we are happy to accept cash on collection.
