This is a rare standing mazer in the Tudor manner made by foremost Arts and Crafts silversmith A E Jones and hallmarked in Birmingham in 1921. The upper part comprises a silver bowl decorated with reeded, tongue and leaf patterns mounted within a fruitwood bowl. This is fixed to a thick decorated column onto a circular foot. There are natural burrs and knots in the wood (see picture) which would have been there in the original piece. The area just above the foot has pierced decoration of masks, leaves and flowers.
The base is hallmarked with the full set of hallmarks and the bowl is hallmarked with the sterling and date letter. Height : approximately 15 cms from base to top of handle. In excellent antique condition commensurate with age and normal/light usage.Due to the value and nature of this item we will send it by recorded signed for and insured post.
