AMY SANDHEIM att 1920 Arts and Crafts silver lapis necklace, knots chain lovely

  
To me, it has so many touches which have been attributed to Amy Sandheim on other necklaces and brooches; namely the knots chain, the silver open work detailing and the mount for the stone. It is an impressive and stately piece. The main part of the pendant is of a squareish open work structure, decorated with hammered little squares of silver. Again, some of the scrolls are reminiscent of Sandheim's work. The large, central domed lapis cabochon makes a beautiful statement, at approx 3cm by 2cm. Two original, heavy Arts and Crafts chains, featuring knots (exactly the same as in some of Sandheim's work I have come across) lead from the main pendant up to a smaller panel, with same decoration as the large pendant. It is set with a suspended lapis bead. The heavy, knotted chains forming the necklace part lead from the top of the smaller panel. What a delight to find such a heavy, hand crafted chain on a necklace, which is original to the piece.

The knots are a complete work of art and the amount of time that has gone into the making of this piece is clear to see. The catch has been replaced at some point and you may wish to fit a sturdier catch or else a safety chain if you intend to wear the necklace a lot.

She is a substantial piece which feels rather lovely on. I have not cleaned the patina, but that is always choice when you receive her. If you prefer shiny silver then it won't take you long to do that. I think there is something beautifully historic and romantic about the patina, hence, I left it. Length of the chain is approx 42cm (16.5 inches) and the pendant drop is a whopping 12cm (4.75 inches). It will be sent by courier, to ensure both speed and security.
