Antique Arts and Crafts Brass Coal Scuttle Log Box Victorian c. 1870

  
Here is a decorative antique coal or log box. It dates to the latter part of the 19th century, Victorian era and is very much in the Arts and Crafts style.

Very similar examples were produced by Henry Loveridge and according to information on the internet not all items were marked. I have included images of the box all round and as you can see it does have some historic marks and dings, commensurate with it's age and use.

It has it's original liner, but unfortunately no shovel. If it was used as a log box the holder at the back would be ideal for long matches (as shown). When lifting the lid you can see that the middle hinge is not fixed on. I can confirm the lid is secure and opens and closes fine. I believe the turned wood handle is ebony, which works beautifully with the shiny brass metal. The decorative embossed brass lid gives the box an opulence.

I hope you can see that it displays beautifully and would be ideal as an addition to you fireside, whether it be an open fire or log burner. Measuring 14 1/2 inches from back to front at it's maximum and standing just under 16 inches high to the top of the brass handle fitting. The lift up lid measures 10 1/2 inches square.
