Arts and Crafts c1900 Birmingham School silver, gold and blister pearl brooch
A beautiful c1900 Arts and Crafts brooch, in the most lovely foliate design. It was part of a range, sometimes stamped DAWN Regd. This is a particularly lovely example, as it has gilding on the trio of leaves at each of the compass points. It is also rather reminiscent of a hammered silver Murrle Bennett piece, although the rope work detailing at the foot of the stone's setting leads you to focus more on English design. I adore everything about this fabulous brooch - it sits beautifully in your hand, is an impressive size and also, unusually, is created to wear on the vertical of the oval. Four sets of leaves and central berry are set around the perimeter of the colourful blister pearl. The leaves are shaped so simply with a single ridge down the centre. Such a fine and beautifully executed piece, indicative of a quality maker. Please note I will supply in a new gift box as the box in the images is for display only.
