A beautiful bow fronted display cabinet composed of Mahogany with bow fronted stained and leaded glass doors. Plain glass panels to both sides, locking doors with keys, original hardware and silk interior lining to shelves and back. Decorative top plinth, carved detail to the top and tall cabriole legs make this cabinet stand out from the crowd. There are however some minor areas of damage to the glass, with some small fractures to the smaller stained glass pieces and a larger fracture on one of the glass sections on the left hand door.
This has been secured with glass adhesive but is still visible, see photos. Although the cabinet was in great condition, the Mahogany veneer was looking a little dated in my opinion. I cleaned the entire piece with methylated spirits to remove any furniture wax. Next I cleaned with sugar soap and warm soapy water, lightly sanded and primed with Dixie Belle Slick Stick primer. I wanted to create a marbled effect to resemble Malachite.I used a combination of paint products to achieve this in various shades of green to provide the depth and rich tones I wanted. Next I applied two coats of Polyvine varnish to seal and protect the paintwork. To finish, I hung a green silk tassel.
