This fine piece of wok is from Sibyl Dunlop, one of the most desirable names for A&C collectors today. It is an early piece, c1920, which just sings, both in form and in colour. There is a play between cabochon and faceted stones, and the colours of the pale plum amethysts, bright apple green chrysoprase and the pale, sparkly lemon of the citrines is a joy to behold. Despite being a large piece of jewellery, it retains a quintessential lightness aesthetically. The large pendant contains silver open work with scrolls and tiny three petalled flowers.
There is a large, faceted amethyst in the central position, with a round faceted citrine in the North and South positions. To the East and West positions are two faceted pale amethysts and in between these four stones, are four oval, domed cabochons of chrysoprase. The final touch of the large cabochon of amethyst (full of superb inclusions) set as the dangler is again, a superb choice to pull the whole piece together. The chain is one of the finest designs you will find in A&C pieces, and as mentioned, has the type of fastener I have seen on other Dunlop pieces.
The verso is exquisite, beautifully worked and delicate in its detailing. The tell tale links to the Tadema Gallery piece, are under the chrysoprase cabochons, a small square box detail, from which scrolls are placed. The detailing under where the chrysoprase is set is identical to the afore mentioned brooch.
It is STUNNING-and you certainly do not come across these glorious pieces often at all. The pendant measures an impressive 8.9cm in height, from the bale to the bottom of the drop and approx 5.3cm across. The chain measures approx 60cm. Please note that I will send the necklace by International courier, for both security and speed. Please note the box in the images is for display purposes only.
