Morris & Co lath back chair with a woven bergere wicker cane seat. Antique Art and Crafts period c1880.
Often referred to as Liberty of London chairs. This design is instantly recognisable as a Morris design due to the wave lath back to the back of the chair. This particular chair has the woven cane seat which is in good condition and looks to be original. Morris & Co produced these chairs as small decorative furniture and they are now more Works of Art rather than practical usable chairs. Also known as a fireside chair as it's low to be nearer the warmth of the fire.
This chair has been owned by a farming family here in the Yorkshire Dales. A beautiful bedroom or hall chair with turned legs and double side stretchers. The cane seat is in really good condition. 27cm from floor to seat.
