MURRLE BENNETT 1900 Arts and Crafts silver enamel Celtic pendant, original chain

  

A beautiful enamel and silver fully stamped MURRLE BENNETT necklace c1900, in lovely, original condition. It is stamped on the reverse of the pendant "950" and "MBO" very clearly. This design features some Celtic detailing, such as the beautiful knotted section at the bottom of the main part of the pendant, where the enamel dropper is attached.

Then we have the elongated Archibald Knox type of sinuous sections at the top of the pendant. The enamel work is so colourful and I adore the colours which have been used, a purple, turquoise and aqua green, which have been applied so that they all run into each other almost like a water colour painting.

The enamel dropper continues that theme with all three colours included. There is a lovely double bale on the pendant and the original chain has the unusual but instantly recognisable Murrle Bennett design.

The pendant measures approx 5.6cm in height and the chain is approx 46cm (18 inches) in length. This is a wonderful and authentic piece of ARTS and CRAFTS history by one of the most sought-after makers.

It is a delightful piece in lovely condition, both the silver work and the enamel. A beautiful thing indeed which will be sent by International Tracked and Signed from here in Italy.
