MURRLE BENNETT c1900 Arts and Crafts silver, gold, pearl heart festoon necklace

  

A beautiful festoon design, fully stamped MURRLE BENNETT necklace c1900, in lovely, original condition. The shape of the main section is reminiscent of a heart. It is stamped on the reverse of the pendant "950" and "MBO" very clearly. A superb design, which is very beautiful indeed.

I have only ever seen one other in this design, but with amethyst, at the excellent Tadema Gallery. Personally, I adore the use of hammered silver with pearl, especially in this astoundingly attractive necklace, as it has gold collet settings for the two pearl sections.

Something about the yellow of the gold enriches the white and creaminess of the pearls. These hammered silver MB pieces are some of my very favourite pieces of jewellery and this necklace is extra special because of its festoon structure, with the double chains and matching hammered silver spacers.

A beautifully worked piece which is finished in exquisite detail. Such incredible attention to detail! The necklace is in wonderful condition, just some patina, which I actually believe enhances the look of the hammered silver. All original chains, stones and toggle fastener.

Pleasingly, fully stamped for Murrle Bennett as mentioned above. The height of the main pendant and pearl dangler is approx 4.2cm. The length of the chain is approx 41cm (16 inches). It is a high quality, beautiful piece of antique jewellery by a most desirable maker. What is there not to love!
