Albert Edward Jones (1878 - 1954) was one of the most notable silversmiths of the 19th century, with his work being synonymous with the Arts and Crafts movement. He was born into a family of craftsmen and studied at the Birmingham wing of the Central School of Arts and Crafts. He was also a member of the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft. It was in this era that he would study and work alongside a number of key figures, consequently building a stellar reputation as one of the most promising craftsmen around.

He set up his own premises at Holloway Head in Birmingham in 1902. Although best known for hallmarked silver, the firm also produced notable work in bronze, copper and brass.

This simple yet solid sauce boat is in the hammered style so beloved of Arts and Crafts artisans harking back as it does to the days of medieval craftsmanship. It has a typically stylish handle and stands on tripod legs. Measurement: - approximately 17cm (length) x 6 cm (height) x 8 cm (width) and weighs 155 grams.

It is in excellent condition with no splits, repairs, dents or engravings, but a few very light surface scratches due to age and usage. Jones's genius lay in being able to produce Arts and Crafts style metalwork commercially at an affordable price without compromising on the distinctive design. His pieces are now greatly prized and highly collectable and with good reason! This item is in the category "Antiques\Antique Furniture\Other Antique Furniture".
